JOSHUA TREE Tiny House Workshop 2018 (March 23-24-25- 2018)
PLEASE READ ALL (for those considering signing up)
The $200 fee is DEPOSIT to reserve your spot- the balance will be due at the actual workshop....
Forget those hotel ballroom talk-only workshops- you're only gonna learn so much with them- Yes, there are a few decent ones out there, but MOST are a waste and those are NOT hands-on- trust me. We've been doing our workshops "From Fargo to Sydney", and have led thousands of students over the years. Since 2010. 'Nuff said.
Our Diedricksen Brother's Workshops ARE HANDS-ON.
Below is our ACTUAL workshop site.... a large spread of land, with many amazing cabins and vintage trailers, very close to the center of Joshua Tree (town), and less than a mile from the main park entrance. Its close to everything.
Our workshops are not an EIGHTY person cattle call either- this workshop is limited to 30 students- we don't want anymore than that as it kills the intimacy of the workshop and hinders the whole learning experience. We have more than one host (often FOUR or more) and are here to answer your questions and give you the time you need. We usually have one teacher for every 8 students, thus giving you tons of personal QnA time.
If you want to:
ACTUALLY BE PART OF THE DESIGN PROCESS
ACTUALLY HAVE AN UNBELIEVABLE AMOUNT OF FUN, BE INSPIRED, NETWORK WITH PEOPLE
ACTUALLY BE PART OF BUILD SESSIONS AND LIVE DEMOS THAT LAST LONGER THAN FROM A MERE 10am to 3pm (we kick butt from 9am until 9 pm, OR LATER))
Almost 30 hours of contact, learning...
And learn to build on a budget, with salvage, and want to get REALLY creative....
THIS IS THE WORKSHOP FOR YOU!
ITS FOR ALL LEVELS (or NONE) of skill too (the reason we have several hosts on hand)
What we'll cover (and DO)
-Tool use and selection
-Building on wheels- what to consider/what to avoid....
-Time saving tricks of the trade
-and much more!
There will be limited lodging offered on site (for a fee/an airbnb listing), and we will have guest speakers/demos. There is plenty of lodging in Joshua Tree and nearby towns which you can locate with a quick google or travelocity search too.
ALL in Joshua Tree, CA!
Tour a bottle house, see vintage campers, a mid-century modern home, and more!
We WILL soon be looking for one/two women hosts/teachers to add to this event.... details to follow.
Derek "Deek" Diedricksen: Deek is the former host/builder/head designer of the HGTV and DIY Network series "Tiny House Builders". He is also the author of the bestseller "Microshelters" (and other books), and a tiny house, tree house, and backyard studio designer/builder for a living. His work has appear in the NY Times, China Times, Time Magazine, the homepage of Yahoo.com, and beyond....
Cary Ezell: Cary is a professional custom designer and crafter/builder in the field of concrete and masonry, and a DIY whiz- you'll see MANY of his amazing creations and projects on site. Cary will be on site to help with hands on demonstrations and projects (building a masonry bottle wall, for one!).
He also runs an AMAZING set of desert rental cabins (incredibly funky and unique) in Joshua Tree.
Palo Coleman: A DIY madman and professor of eclecticism, Palo excels in the fields of Japanese construction and design, and is also a tiny house builder, and a furniture builder, who has traveled with us for dozens of custom builds around the US.
Dustin Diedricksen: An environmental engineer by trade, Dustin is also a tiny house builder and designer, small house dweller, tree house guru, and was also an HGTV host alum.
And more TBA....
Meals and transportation are not included. Endless coffee will be on hand- don't worry....
Class schedule is as follows....
Friday- 6pm-9pm (hang out/meet and greet)- if you miss Friday, that is OK- don't worry. We'll get you up to speed.
Saturday- 9am sign-in (for those who haven't on Friday). Until 9pm
Sunday- 10 am to 6/7 pm
For additional information, or if interested in sponsoring the event- firstname.lastname@example.org (blog, posters, video, and on-site inclusion for your brand or products)
Sign-up fees are refundable up until 30 days before the event. After this point (no exceptions), you will get a credit for a future workshop, but not a refund. No shows, with no notice, will NOT get a credit- no exception. This is more than fair, and most other workshops will not even offer this...
Please make sure your calendar is free before signing up....
COST- $399 for a THREE day, hands-on, LONG hours, multi-host, course.
DEPOSIT of $200 is required to secure your spot. This is only a deposit, and the other 50% will be due on site before the workshop starts.
Directions: Once you sign up (make sure we have your proper and current email) you will eventually get a FULL email of what to pack, where to be, and what to expect about one month before the vent. If you are dying to know the exact site (PLEASE DO NOT surprise visit it to check it out), you can look up "Bungalow In The Boulders" on airbnb). Again, we're one mile from the Joshua Tree main park entrance by town.
Thanks, and we look forward to building with you!
